When one of the top producers of natural gas and oil in the state of Texas was in need of custom thermal insulation blankets, they called on Team OCTI. As a primary vendor for the oil and gas industry, they are involved with the production, processing, transportation, and development of oil and natural gas resources. A significant part of their transportation responsibilities include the repair and overhaul of diesel engines that are due for service.

The Challenge
The natural gas and oil producer was looking to partner with an industrial insulation solution provider to produce thermal insulation blankets for cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds to better protect diesel engines. Due to the demanding and remote conditions faced by the oil and gas industry, these engines would need to operate efficiently under extreme heat.
The Solution
With the advanced technology that Team OCTI provides, we utilized state-of-the-art 3D modeling software to create the exact fit specifications the removable insulation blankets would require to be used on the 8-, 12-, and 16-cylinder engine heads. A hybrid solution of metal and soft material was used to provide heat protection for heat-sensitive components within the engine and minimize radiant heat overall.
The Outcome
Over the course of a few months, Team OCTI manufactured thermal insulation blankets to coincide with the customers regular schedule of engine maintenance. Our team of technicians traveled to their facilities to install the custom-fit coverings to make sure the fit was right and that the customer had the training on both installation and removal processes.
